SPLA soldiers loot bishop’s home – report
Dec 2, 2005 (JUBA) — Some Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) soldiers on 29 November allegedly looted property including a mattress, solar panels and bicycles from the house of the bishop of Tombura-Yambio diocese, Joseph Gasi Abangita.
The soldiers also shot in the air before escaping.
A catholic priest, Fr Samuel Sabit, told Sudan Radio Service (SRS) that the attackers also burnt down some houses in the area.
Sabit confirmed there was shooting here in the bishop’s house. “They shot some guns, some of them had RPGs in hand when people were scared they took all what they wanted went. So shooting started and all of us were scattered.”
He further said “when we came back we tried to know what is happening but there were shots of guns from town coming this way.”
The information coming is that they burnt one house, the home of Abu John, and they burnt the house of Mary Biba with a car and they burnt the house of Alfred Riruyo and some houses around. One could see smoke there yesterday.
Fr Sabit urged the government of southern Sudan to intervene in to the matter to avoid more bloodshed in the state.
