Eritrean opposition officials discuss military coordination

Text of statement issued by opposition Eritrean Democratic Alliance on 27 November; published by Eritrean opposition website Meskerem.com on 3 December

It will be recalled that the second regular meeting of the central leadership of the [opposition coalition] Eritrean Democratic Alliance [EDA] had resolved that there should be coordination among [Eritrean] opposition organizations that have military wings.

Based on this resolution, a seminar was held in Shire [in northern Ethiopia, bordering Eritrea] from 17 to 19 November 2005. The seminar was chaired by EDA Chairman Brother Husayn Khalifa and the head of EDA’s security and information department, Brother Ibrahim Haroun. Heads of cadres and military and security departments of EDA also attended the seminar. The agenda of the seminar was as follows:

1. Coordination.

2. Mechanism.

3. International situations.

4. Security; and

5. Work plans.

The seminar was successfully concluded by drawing a work plan for military and security coordination. It also set up a seven-member central military committee to implement the plan.
