Eritrean president receives a message from Sudanese counterpart

Dec 5, 2005 (ASMARA) — President Isayas Afewerki today received a message from the Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir inviting him to take part in the AU Summit due to be held in Khartoum next month.

In the message, the Sudanese leader stated that it is the wish of the Sudanese government that Eritrea plays due role in the summit agenda.

President Isayas held talks with Gazi Salahadin Attabani on Eritrean-Sudanese relations in continuation of the discussions conducted during the recent visit by Salva Kiir, Sudan’s First Vice-President and President of the southern Sudan government.

In the meeting, significant ideas were put forth by Afewerki and Attabani to enhance strategic relations between the two countries. The talks between the two sides were of similar nature.

President Isayas and Attabani agreed on continued contacts between the two countries so as to deepen and implement these ideas.

The Sudanese delegation arrived in Asmara today.
