Salav Kiir signs southern Sudan constitution

Dec 6, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The First Vice-President, Lt-Gen Salva Kiir Mayardit, signed the constitution of southern Sudan in Juba yesterday and addressed the celebration gathering in front of the grave of the late John Garang and in the presence of presidential advisor Mansur Khalid.

According to the state-run SUNA news agency, Kiir said the south would witness the beginning of a new constitutional phase and expressed his happiness at reaching this milestone, in which the southern constitution had been formed, as well as the interim parliament and the judiciary system for the south.
