AU Mediation discusses its Draft Compromise Document with Intl Partners

7th Round of the inter-Sudanese peace talks on the conflict in Darfur

Dec 7, 2005 (ABUJA) — In its continued efforts to bridge the gap between the Sudanese Parties – the Government of the Sudan (GoS), the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A), and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), the African Union Mediation, today Wednesday 7 December 2005, came up with a Draft Compromise Document on the issues under consideration regarding Item 4 of the Agenda of the Commission on Power Sharing – Federal System, All Levels of Governance and Their Competences.

This document was presented to the International Partners during the late night session chaired by Dr Salim Ahmed Salim, AU Special Envoy on Darfur and Chief Mediator, and discussed in-depth.

On conclusion of the discussions, the International Partners expressed general support for the compromise proposals contained in the Document, which will now be finalized and submitted to the Sudanese Parties.

A formal session of the Commission on Power Sharing will be held tomorrow Thursday 8 December 2005 to consider the Draft Proposals.
