AU mediator urges Darfur talks parties to reach an agreement

Dec 10, 2005 (ABUJA) — The Special envoy of the African Union for Darfur peace talks, Salem Ahmed Salem, has called on the negotiating parties to exert efforts for reaching an agreement which alleviates the suffering of the people of Darfur.

Salim_Ahmed_Salim5.jpgAddressing the inaugural sitting of the committee on wealth sharing Friday, Salem hoped that the sharing of wealth committee would benefit from the recent workshops and the expanded consultations, urging the negotiating parties to shoulder their responsibilities towards the people of Darfur.

Meanwhile, the coordinator of the committee for the sharing of wealth said that the committee meets after a workshop which was organized in Nairobi during November 10 – 15 by the World Bank, the Norwegian Peace Research Institute and the USAID, besides earlier workshops organized by the African Union in Abuja during September 20 – 21.

He said that these workshops were intended to boost the technical capabilities of the negotiating parties in such technical issue like the sharing of wealth.
