Abuja commission on wealth sharing continues its deliberations
AFRICAN UNION
CONFLICT IN DARFUR
Dec 13, 2005 (ABUJA) — The Commission on Wealth Sharing – one of the three Commissions established for the 7th Round of the Inter-Sudanese Peace Talks on the Conflict in Darfur – continued its deliberations in Abuja today Tuesday 13 December 2005 in an encouraging atmosphere under the chairmanship of its Coordinator Mr. Ablassé Ouedraogo.
The Commission concluded consideration of Item 1 of its Agenda – Concepts and General Principles for Wealth Sharing – at its morning session, and will commence discussion on Item 2 – Fiscal Federalism and Intergovernmental Relations – later in the evening.
It may be noted that the issues under discussion are highly technical in nature. Nevertheless the Parties, in order to facilitate the negotiation process, have demonstrated high-level cooperation.
If the ambience currently prevailing in the Commission’s meetings is sustained, the AU Mediation is optimistic that substantial progress will soon be made, and that the ultimate objective of reaching an agreement will be attained without great difficulties.
