Sudan, Ethiopia leaders hold talks over economic ties
Dec 15, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — Talks today in Khartoum between the president Omar al-Bashir, his two deputies, and the Ethiopian prime minister, Meles Zenawi, touched on peace efforts, stability and moves to strengthen the leadership in the two countries with a view of realizing mutual cooperation, particularly in the fields of investment and transport, for the interests of people in the two countries.
The two sides also expressed appreciation with the distinguished relations between Khartoum and Addis Ababa, the Sudanese radio said.
The president Omar al-Bashir, today held talks with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. The talks touched on bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and levels of cooperation in all spheres. The talks also touched on efforts being made to realize stability and peace in the two countries.
On his part, the Ethiopian prime minister affirmed his government’s full support to Sudan in the implementation of the peace agreement and supporting the Sudanese government in realizing stability and development in Sudan.
During his talks with the first vice-president, Lt-Salva Kiir, the Ethiopian prime minister, Meles Zenawi, expressed his appreciation with the high level of ties between Ethiopia and Sudan.
First Vice-President Lt-Gen Salva Kiir Mayardit said that during his meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, they discussed ways of strengthening security along the Sudan-Ethiopia border.
During his talks with Vice-President Ali Osman Taha, the Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi commended the distinguished relations between Sudan and Ethiopia in all spheres.
On his part, the vice-president said the meeting reviewed the situation in the two countries and the bilateral relations, as well as the positive developments being witnessed in the two countries due to cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, transport and communication.
The meeting also reviewed the political developments in the region and the call by the leadership in the two countries to jointly face the security challenges along the common borders in order to guarantee regional security and stability and also shift focus to development for the benefit of the people.
