Sudanese oil industry run by national cadre – minister

Dec 15, 2005 (RABKONA, Unity State) — The Sudanese Minister of Energy and Mining Awad Al-Jaz pointed out that 76% of the oil industry in the country is run by Sudanese cadres, and that the civil works at the petroleum production areas are being conducted 100% by Sudanese manpower.

Observers say that China’s National Petroleum Company (CNPC) and Malaysia’s Petronas recruit mainly Chinese and Malaysian manpower. The CNPC uses Chinese language Instead of English. Such behaviour excludes Sudanese manpower or instruction of local manpower.

Speaking to the press during his visit Thursday to Rabkona area, Al-Jaz said that the oil production map has covered most of Sudan states, stating that petroleum is a national wealth.

He indicated that the oil resources and revenues are managed in full transparency and with clear accounts.

He said that agreements were made with the companies operating at the oil field in the country to assign funds for establishment of development projects at the oil production areas, explaining that the Ministry of Energy and Mining is implementing these development projects on behalf of Sudan government.
