Juba churches set up a volunteers group

Dec 17, 2005 (JUBA) — The five churches in Juba, led by Apollo Alfred and ALARM, established a large group of volunteers called One City – Many Hands Juba.

Its purpose is to show the commitment of the volunteer group to serve the general interest “as we rebuild our city and Southern Sudan to the greatness that we all wish”.

Many groups have come to assist in leadership training and organization with the hope that we will lead the efforts to rebuild, One City said in a press statement.

The ONG recently led a group of volunteers in an effort to clean Juba of waste and debris. “The reason that we did this was to show the world that the desire and effort is here in our city to provide construction labour, medical services, and education of our children necessary to complete the task”, the statement said.

The operation Clean Juba was introduced by the Minister of Health and this is a sign that even our government backs One-City’s efforts.

The Sudanese NGO launches an appeal to the international community calling for the implementation of common projects to help the people of Juba and the region generally. “We have a willing and organized group of volunteers that would be extremely motivated if others were to invest in One City – Many Hands Juba” the statement said.

“We have strong and influential backing, that is ready to provide additional expertise and resources, provided that we continue to prove our willingness to lead and staff the movement and we provide evidence that we are successful in marketing Many Hands as a worthy recipient of assistance” the statement said.
