Sudan denies backing Chadian rebels
Dec 19, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese Foreign Ministry and the Sudanese Armed Forces have denied the Chadian claims that Sudan was involved in the violent confrontations that Chad was witnessing at its border regions.
On November 20, Chad accused neighbouring Sudan of deliberately trying to destabilise it by using Chadian army deserters who fled over the border to help fight rebels.
The state minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Al-Samani Al-Wasleea, regretted the Chadian accusations.
He said that that his ministry would officially consult the Chadian Foreign Ministry on the accusations against Sudan.
He added that Sudan was doing all that it could to preserve the stability of its neighbour Chad.
Al-Wasleea affirmed that Sudan was totally determined not to make the Darfur arena bring any problems to the security of Chad.
He went on to say that once when the Sudanese army tried to block the Chadian rebels from entering into Sudanese territories the Chadian government accused Sudan of supporting the rebels and these accusations were circulated by the by the Darfur rebels.
The state minister affirmed Sudan’s commitment to preserve Chad’s stability as destabilizing its security would have an effect on the whole region.
On the other hand, the official spokesman at the Armed forces Press Office denied that the Armed Forces had any involvement in the confrontations in Chad.
We have no connection with the on going confrontations inside the Chadian border and the army is not supporting any of the rebels, he added.
He further said that the army had cooperated with the Chadian army by chasing the rebels away from Mun Mountain.
The spokesman also denied that the attacks could have erupted from with in Sudanese territories.
