18 killed in attack on police post in western Darfur

KHARTOUM, Dec 20 (KHARTOUM) — Western Darfur Governor Jafar Abdelhakam has announced that 18 people died here on Monday 19 December when a tribal militia attacked a village in western Darfur in Sudan.

Sudanese_police_secure_Abu_Shouk_camp.jpgGovernor of Western Darfur Jaafar Abdulhakam said today that the militia attack targeted Abu-Saruj police stations in Kulbus locality in Western Darfur State.. Policemen returned fire and several civilians were killed because of the attack, he added.

Abdulhakam denounced the attack describing it as shameful especially that it was carried out while a conference was gathering Darfur’s residents to end war in the area, which was triggered in 2003.

He further said that the state’s authorities and the security committee had taken all the necessary measures to protect the civilians and resolve the humanitarian situation in the region.
