Sudanese president forms joint defence council

Dec 29, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — President Omar al-Bashir has issued a republican decree forming Joint Defence Council in accordance with the Interim Constitution.

The National Assembly had earlier approved the Joint Units Act, the official SUNA said.

According to the Act, the Council will have a technical panel that will assist it in carrying out its tasks.

They are represented in coordination between the Armed Forces and Sudan People’s Liberation Army, command and training of the joint/integrated units and working out comprehensive framework for confidence building between the Armed Forces and Sudan People’s Liberation Army.

The decree stipulated that the council shall be under the co-chairmanship of Gen. Abbas Arabi Abdalla and Gen. Oyabi Deng Ajak.
