US paper interviews Speaker on efforts in peace process

KHARTOUM, Oct. 16, 2003 (SUNA) — The American USA Today newspaper has interviewed the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ahmad Ibrahim al- Tahir, where he spoke on a number of issues at the Sudanese arena.

Al-Tahir has shed light on the efforts for realizing peace in Sudan and the United States’ support to the peace process, a matter which will help in the flow of foreign investments in the country.

The assembly’s Speaker has called on the American private sector to set up investment projects in Sudan, which is bestowed with tremendous resources.

He also spoke about the role of the Sudanese women and their contribution to the public work, stressing that the women sector is an important sector in the Sudanese society.

It is to be recalled that the USA Today newspaper will publish a special political and economic file about Sudan.

On the other hand, deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Abdallah Ahmad Al-Hardallo, has hailed the efforts of the first vice- president of the republic, Ali Uthman Muhammad Taha, in leading the current negotiations for achieving a lasting peace, which will boost the stability and development in the country.

He referred to the address of the first vice-president before the National Assembly which included a number of important issues, such as the state’s policy for the post-war era at the political, economic and social fields.

Al-Hardallo said that the coming period will be one of the challenges of peace, pluralism, openness, freedoms and development.

He expected that the coming stage will witness intensive work of the National Assembly and influx of Arab and foreign capitals for investment in Sudan.
