100 Sudanese refugees in Egypt return home on Sunday
Jan 1, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — A number of the Sudanese, who held a three-week protest at Sudanese refugee camps in Cairo, would return to Sudan aboard a plane furnished by the Egyptian government, said the Sudanese Foreign Ministry on Sunday.
The ministry said in a statement that 100 Sudanese refugees would arrive tonight at Khartoum airport, while asserting that Sudan welcomed all Sudanese refugees who whished to return home.
A special committee was formed by the Sudanese government to receive the returning refugees and to assure that they safely reached their families in Sudan, it said.
The Sudanese ministry expressed regret for the death of some Sudanese refugees during the protest in Cairo, calling on all of the Sudanese refugees in Egypt to return home, and noting that the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo would assist them to do so.
