OIC welcomes Sudanese security, military arrangements peace pact
PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, Oct. 18, 2003 (SUNA) — Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Dr Abdelouahed Belkeziz has expressed hope that the talks between the government of Sudan and SPLM currently taking place in Kenya would achieve comprehensive peace that guarantees Sudan’s national unity, stability and push ahead its march towards development.
Dr Belkeziz welcomed, in his address before the opening sitting of the 10th summit of OIC which began sessions here Thursday, the agreement on the security arrangements which was signed by the government of Sudan and SPLM.
He urged the member countries of OIC to contribute in developing and rehabilitating the south and the war-affected areas in Sudan.
He reviewed the efforts which were exerted by the OIC in the previous period to confront the risks and challenges that face the countries of the Islamic World especially the complicated situations in the occupied Iraq and Palestine.
He touched on the painful reality of the Islamic World and the dangers before it with its culture and civilization, saying the Islamic World should find a unified Islamic thought to deal with the current international reality.
