100 killed in western Sudan unrest
KHARTOUM, Oct 20 (AFP) — One hundred people were killed in attacks by Arab tribal militias on villages in Sudan’s troubled West Darfur state, a press report said Monday.
Independent Al Ayam daily quoted a member of parliament from Daresah constituency as saying the attacks were staged on Saturday by Janjaweed militiamen on 15 villages which they burned down, displacing 15,000 people.
Deputy Khalid Bilal said a delegation of West Darfur parliamentarians would leave here for the area on a fact-finding mission.
Bilal called upon the government to disarm all the civilians and to despatch relief aid to the displaced persons in the area
