Museveni receives message from Gadhafi ahead of AU summit

Jan 19, 2006 (KAMPALA) — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has received a special message from Libyan leader Muammer AL Gadhafi ahead of an African Union summit, the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) Radio reported on Thursday.

Yoweri_Museveni.jpgThe message was delivered by Gadhafi’s personal envoy Ali Abdul Salaam Al-Tiriki who arrived in Uganda on Wednesday.

Ali Abdul Salaam Al-Tiriki was quoted as saying that he is in Uganda to deliver a message from Gadhafi to President Yoweri Museveni aimed at strengthening bilateral ties with Uganda.

The Libyan envoy said both Museveni and Gadhafi worked hard for the establishment of African Union toward forming a United Africa.

The Libyan envoy was received by Ugandan Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa on Wednesday.

Kutesa said the two will discuss issues related to African Union before proceeding to Khartoum, capital of Sudan for an African Union summit.

The next week’s Khartoum summit will discuss Libya’s proposal on establishment of a United Africa and other issues.

The 53-member African Union was launched in 2002 as a successor to the Organization of African Unity.
