Jan 20, 2006 (ABUJA) — The Commission on Power Sharing – one of the three Negotiating Frameworks for the current Round of the Inter-Sudanese Peace Talks – has scheduled three sessions for today Friday 20 January 2006 to continue indepth discussions on its Agenda Items.
It is to be recalled that the Power Sharing Commission which is chaired by its Co-ordinator Ambassador Berhanu Dinka, resumed formal discussions yesterday Thursday after the Eid recess and following the intensive separate briefing sessions and consultations undertaken earlier in the week by the AU Mediation Team with all the Sudanese Parties, the Representatives of the Co-mediators, Facilitators and International Partners, with a view to moving the negotiations forward.
At yesterday’s morning session, the Government of the Sudan (GoS) delegation came up with a number of proposals on Agenda Items 4 (Federal System, All Levels of Governance and their Competences), 5 (Effective Participation in all Institutions at Federal Level and All Other Levels of Governance) and 6 (Institutions of the State and the Public Services).
In their preliminary reactions to the GoS presentations later in the evening session, the Movements (SLM/A and JEM) requested for and received clarifications on each of the proposals. Detailed discussions get underway today on all the points presented with a view to establishing a common ground between the Sudanese Parties.
