Sudan heading African Union a concern – US Bush
Jan 23, 2006 (MANHATTAN, Kansas) — President George W. Bush on Monday said the United States was concerned about Sudan heading the African Union.
“It is a concern to us,” Bush said at Kansas State University in response to a question.
African nations were split about whether Sudan should head the African Union. Sudan, under fire for human rights abuses, said it was ready to withdraw its bid to chair the AU if it would avoid divisions in the 53-nation organization.
