Ogaden rebels report battles against Ethiopian troops
Jan 25, 2006 (ADDIS ABABA) — The opposition Radio Freedom correspondent based in Ogaden has reported several battles between Ogaden liberation forces and Ethiopian troops, during which massive losses were inflicted on governmental troops.
The following battles took place.
On 14 January 2006, seven Ethiopian soldiers were killed and 10 others were wounded in fighting in Qamuda.
On 15 January 2006, three enemy soldiers were killed in fighting that took place in Wijiwaji, which is 65 kilometres to the north of Kebri Dehar town. On the same date, Ogaden liberation combatants launched a night-time attack on the Ethiopian government military base in Degeh Madow town, killing 15 soldiers and inflicting extensive damage on the base.
On 17 January 2006, Ogaden liberation fighters carried out a night-time attack on colonial soldiers based in Wijiwaji town. Twenty-five soldiers are known to have been killed in the raid. Major damage was also inflicted on the army base and military equipment there.
On 17 January 2006, Ogaden liberation units ambushed an enemy military convoy passing through a place called Jalelo, which is 25 kilometres north of Warder town, killing 25 enemy soldiers and wounding 63 others. One vehicle in the convoy was destroyed. The convoy was headed for Warder town when it was ambushed.
