Kenya to train 250,000 Southern Sudan civil servants
Jan 25, 2006 (JUBA) — Kenya will train 250,000 Southern Sudan civil servants, an assistant minister has announced. Danson Mungatana said police training would also be offered to 5,000 southern Sudanese.
In a press statement ot the kenyan the Daily Nation, Mungatana said in Juba, the headquarters of southern Sudan, that the training would be in batches. The training, he added, was part of Kenya’s commitment to reconstruction of the country that is still struggling to recover from 21 years of war.
Speaking when he met southern Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit, who is also the Sudan government of national unity vice-president, Mungatana said Kenya would help build an aviation tower at the Juba international airport.
Kenya is among eight countries selected by the African Union to the conflict resolution committee on Sudan.
The assistant minister who was in Sudan last week has since returned to Kenya.
“Kenya will honour its commitment towards reconstruction of Sudan,” he said, but could not tell when the training and the building of the tower would start.
