Head of Anglican Church to visit South Sudan

Jan 31, 2006 (NAIROBI) — The Archbishop of Canterbury, doctor rowan Williams is expected to visit Sudan at the end of February, the independent Sudan Radio Service (SRS) reported.

This was revealed by the archbishop of the Episcopal Church of Sudan (ECS), Joseph Marona, when he met the minister of gender, social welfare and religious affairs in the government of southern Sudan, Mary Kiden last week.

He said the archbishop of Canterbury will visit Juba and Maridi. This will be his first visit to Sudan since he was enthroned as the head of the world Anglican Communion in 2003.

Speaking in the same meeting, the chairman of the ECS Justice, Peace and Reconciliation committee, bishop Daniel Deng, informed the minister that the ECS has been conducting a series of civic education workshops to explain and disseminate the comprehensive peace agreement.

He therefore appealed to the government of southern Sudan to support the work of the church in disseminating the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
