Sudan’s church condemns gay bishop
Feb 3, 2006 (JUBA) — The Episcopal Church of the Sudan (ECS) has passed a resolution condemning the Episcopal Church in the USA (ECUSA) and the Anglican Church of Canada for consecrating an openly gay person into the office of bishop, and blessing same-sex marriages.
The ECS resolution was passed at a synod held in Juba from 23-29 January.
A statement from the ECS House of Bishop says the action of the two Anglican communion provinces implies that they have rejected the scripture as the inspired, living, and authoritative word of God and no longer believe in the truth revealed therein. However, the bishops’ statement says the USA and Canadian churches must be cared for and listened to, and asks the same to reconsider their positions for the sake of their salvation and the unity of the church.
The House of Bishops, clergy and the laity approved the condemnation of the two churches.
