Donors to meet in Paris to assess Oslo pledges for Sudan
Feb 4, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The Minister of Finance, Al-Zubair Ahmed Al-Hassan, announced that a meeting would be held in Paris in next March to assess the fulfillment of the donors to their commitments declared at Oslo Donors’ Conference in April 2005.
In a press statement to SUNA, he gave at the Council of Ministers Saturday, the minister said that the meeting will review a report on the donors’ fulfillment to their commitments to support the rehabilitation and development in south Sudan, the expectations for the current year 2006 and Sudan’s need for more aid.
The minister pointed out that the donors have extended 150 million dollars till the end of the year 2005, 100 million dollars out of which were given to south Sudan, while the other 50 million dollars were provided to the northern states.
During Oslo international donors conference, held in April 2005, donor countries pledged 4.5 billion US dollars to bolster peace and reconstruction in the war-plagued southern Sudan.
