Salva Kiir reaffirms Sudan’s commitment for peace in Darfur
Feb 4, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese First Vice-President, Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir, on Saturday expressed the government keenness to reach a peaceful settlement to the Darfur crisis and to achieve peace, stability and development in the region.
Kiir, who received a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Middle East Department, pointed out that the SPLM would contribute effectively to the ongoing peace talk in the Nigerian capital of Abuja through delegation it would be sending so that the experience of Naivasha could be made use of to give an impetus to the negations there.
According to the state-run SUNA, The First Vice-President reviewed the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the government commitment to transparency in the budget in general and the oil proceeds in particular so that all the details would be available to the concerned parties and to the international institutions.
Finance and National Economy Minister Zubair Ahmed Al Hassan, who attended the meeting, pointed out in press statement that the First Vice President of the Republic has referred to the noticeable progress achieved in the economic policies of the past year and the current fiscal year.
He pointed out to the effect of the peace agreement on the economic and budgetary overall policies of the country, stressing the need of writing off foreign debts on the Sudan and of making use of the easy loan chances that are being provided by the World bank and the African Development Bank after normalization of relations between the Sudan and those institutions.
