Sudan becomes attractive for Arab investments – official

Feb 19, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry Shazali Mohamed Abdel-Mageed has said that holding the meetings of the Arab Union for Engineering Industries for the first time in Sudan is an indication that Sudan has become an attractive area for Arab investments.

Addressing the inaugural session of the Arab Union for Engineering Industries at the Helton Hotel here Sunday, Abdel-Mageed referred to the positive steps taken by Sudan to develop industry, particularly in the fields of steel and electronics that have recently witnessed a major development.

The acting undersecretary affirmed Sudan support to the union, adding that joining of Sudan to the association in the person of Eng. Ahmed Abdel-Rahman, representative of GIAD Company, would support the industrial sector in Sudan.

The Chairman of the Arab Union for Engineering Industries, Nabil Freed Hassanein, explained the importance of holding the general assembly of the union in Sudan to get acquainted with the investment opportunities in the country as it also avails a chance for the members of the union to hold meetings with Sudanese businessmen.

Hassanein affirmed desire of the union for increasing of trade exchange between Sudan and the Arab states. He urged activation of Arab free trade agreement and COMESA agreement.
