Sudan’s Mobitel, Ericsson sign ?78 mln contract to expand network
Mar 9, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese Mobile Telecommunication Company (Mobitel) has signed an agreement with the international Ericsson Company, to expand Mobitel network capacity.
The purpose of the 78 million euros deal is to expand Mobitel network to 3.2 million subscribers instead of the current capacity of two million subscribers.
The agreement was signed Wednesday at Hilton Khartoum Hotel, in the presence of the Minister of Information and Communications, Al- Zahawi Ibrahim Malik.
The agreement includes the establishment of modern networks in new sites, as well as providing latest technologies in the field of telecommunications.
At the signing ceremony, the Minister of Information affirmed the government support to such agreements, SUNA reported.
Meanwhile, the General Director of Mobitel, Khalid Al-Muhtadi, said that efforts are being made to enhance the company’s service all over Sudan.
The Sweden Ericsson is the largest supplier of mobile systems in the world and supports all major standards for mobile communication. Ericsson employs 50,500 people in 140 countries, out of which 21,300 are employed in Sweden.
