Kuwait leading in effort for South Sudan’s reconstruction – official
Mar 12, 2006 (JUBA) — Kuwait has long been in the forefront of countries lending a helping hand to southern Sudan and keen on its development and reconstruction after the first Peace Agreement, said governor of the southern Sudanese county of Bahar Al Jabal, Clement Wani.
This came during a celebration held on the occasion of placing the cornerstone for the projects of Juba Port, the five-star Juba Hotel, and a lake-side fishing project executed by Kuwait-Sudan Constructions at the total cost of USD 120 million.
The governor called upon Arab investors to invest in southern Sudan, saying that circumstances were optimum and that the government stood ready to provide all assurances and guarantees to this effect.
For his part, the company’s Chairman and CEO Muath Al-Fuhaid said the hotel would be built over 24,000 square meters and hold 400 rooms, one wing, 30 separate units, three restaurants, celebration halls, a main hall, and a health club.
As for the ports project, he said it would cost USD 40 million alone, adding that the fishing project would include fishing equipment and a canning factory costing USD 10 million.
All three projects would be completed within two years, he said.
Meanwhile, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Sudan Bader Al-Essa said the company was supported and encouraged by the Kuwaiti government with the aim of reconstructing southern Sudan after the war it witnessed.
