Ethiopia to receive over 671 Nigerian teachers
Mar 12, 2006 (ADDIS ABABA) — Some 671 Nigerian instructors would come to Ethiopia this year in a bid to curb shortage of teachers in higher learning institutions of the country, the Ministry of Education said.
The ministry also said extensive training of teachers has been underway at present with a view to providing lasting solution to shortage of higher learning instructors in the country.
The volunteer Nigerian instructors would come to Ethiopia as per the agreement signed between the governments of Ethiopia and Nigeria, acting head of the public relations section with the ministry told Ethiopian News Agency on Sunday.
He said the instructors would be teaching in the universities, colleges, vocational and technical training institutions, and in senior secondary schools of the nation for 1-2 years.
Some of the Nigerian instructors are expected to teach in Ethiopia as of the second semester of the current academic year, he said.
In fact, he said, extensive training of local teachers has been in progress at six universities of the country at second and third degree levels besides to the provision of scholarships in abroad.
Especially, increasing the enrollment capacities of higher learning institutions by thousands during the last 10 years has created an acute shortage of instructors, he added.
