Official urges Sudanese to have one stance on national issues

Mar 18, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The Presidential Advisor, Riek Gai Kok, has called on all the northern and southern political forces to unite their vision towards the national issues.

After his meeting with the Second Vice-President of the Republic, Ali Osman Taha, Saturday, Gai said that South, Drafur or the “Salvation Revolution” — ruling National Congress Party –, are not alone targeted, but Sudan as a whole, particularly after the success achieved by the government in living up to its national responsibilities.

He stressed the importance of avoiding link between the peace in Darfur and the fulfilment of the donors to their commitments in Oslo, adding that the non-fulfilment represent a violation of such commitments, which were declared by the International community.

The Presidential Advisor appreciated the success which was scored by the Sudanese diplomacy through the recent meetings of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union.

Dr Riek Gai Kok, is the deputy chairman of the ruling National Congress party in charge of Southern Sudan affairs. He is the former Chairman of the Coordination Council of the Southern States (CCSS) up to 2005 before the implementation of the CPA with the SPLM. He was the spokesman of Riek Machar’s South Sudan Independence Movement (SSIM) 1997/98, also a former Governor of Jonglei State 1998-2000.
