Kuwait’s FM underlines solid ties with Sudan
Mar 26, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Kuwait’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister Sheikh Mohamed Sabah Al-Sabah here Saturday 25 March underlined solid ties with Sudan, which were based on brotherly sentiments.
Sheikh Mohamed told reporters shortly after arriving in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, for an Arab foreign ministers’ meeting, said the Arab summit would be very special because it would be held in Sudan, a country that enjoys historic relations with Kuwait.
He said Kuwait has large contributions in Southern Sudan, citing the loans presented by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).
The fund extended 18 loans for Sudan with a value of 106 million Kuwaiti Dinars (KD). KFAED is considering another KD 16-million loan to back power generating projects in Marawi Dam.
The fund is studying a possible loan of KD 10 million for other development projects in the African country. Every KD equals USD 3.4.
Sheikh Mohamed voiced content to attend the March 28-29 summit in Khartoum.
“Everbody looks forward that the summit reflects the cooperation and solidarity of Arabs,” he added and noted that the Arabs needed to be united.
He voiced satisfaction for the completion of the agenda to be referred to the Arab leaders.
Sheikh Mohamed will attend the preparatory meetings of the foreign ministers on Sunday.
