PRESS RELEASE
April 3, 2006 — The members of the SPLM in the Washington Metropolitan Area have been keenly following the developments with regards to the Constitution of Khartoum at the Khartoum State Legislative Assembly. We would like to first take this opportunity to reiterate our complete solidarity with the SPLM caucus in the assembly as they work to make sure that the final document is fair and consistent with the Interim National Constitution and the CPA.
We would also like to vigorously express our support for the statements by Comrade Yasir Said Arman, Member of the SPLM Political Bureau and Chairman of the SPLM Parliamentary Caucus in the National Assembly, in reference to the local traditional courts and the unique character of Khartoum as the national capital for all Sudanese with all their diversity.
Moreover, as we keenly follow the meetings of the SPLM Political Office taking place currently in Rumbek, we wish the members of the leadership all the best in their deliberations. We are confident that they will come out with resolutions that will address the aspirations of the Sudanese people for a New Sudan anchored on Freedom, Democracy, Development and Peace in all its corners.
Lastly, we take this occasion to salute our gallant heroes and martyrs, and commit ourselves to march behind the able stewardship of our leader, Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, 1st Vice President of Sudan and President of the Government of Southern Sudan.
