Sudan’s assembly speaker reiterates rejection of UN force

April 6, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The National Assembly Speaker, Ahmad Ibrahim al-Tahir, reiterated the Assembly’s rejection to replace AU forces with UN troops. He said the African forces was capable of carrying out their role in Darfur.

Majzoub_Al-Khalifa1.jpgDuring his meeting with the visiting parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Rwanda, the National Assembly Speaker lauded the recent developed ties between the two countries through the continuous visits made by officials.

Al-Tahir affirmed Sudan’s commitment to promote relations and cooperation with African countries, in general, especially Rwanda.

His excellency briefed the Rwandan parliamentary delegation, which had visited Darfur states, about the situation and the AU’s role in this regard. He said the Darfur issue was considered the first experience for the AU and its ability in solving the African continent’s problems.

Meanwhile, the Rwandan delegation affirmed its country’s support to the AU and encouraged it to carry out its role in achieving peace all over Africa.
