Taha assures AU mediator of Sudan’s commitment to peace process

April 10, 2006 (ABUJA) — The Sudanese Second Vice-President Ali Osman Taha assured the AU Special Envoy and Chief mediator Salim Ahmed Salim of his continued commitment to the Peace Process, and the preparedness of the Sudanese government to work with the parties in the peace talks, to find a lasting solution to the conflict in Darfur.

Salim_Ahmed_Salim5.jpgIn his meeting with the Sudanese vice-president, the Special Envoy was accompanied by the Head of the AU Mediation Team, Sam B. Ibok, said AU spokesperson Noureddine Mezni in a press statement.

Salim and Taha reviewed the outcome of the high-level consultations which took place over the week-end at the initiative of Denis Sassou Nguesso, Congo’s president and the current Chairman of the African Union.

They also exchanged views on the progress made in the on-going negotiations, and on how to overcome the outstanding issues in the Peace Process.
