Armed robbers kill bus passenger, wound two others in Sudan
KHARTOUM, Nov 2 (AFP) — Four armed robbers attacked a passenger bus in western Sudan, killing one person and wounding two others before fleeing with their loot, the governor of South Darfur state said Sunday.
General Adam Hamid Mussa told AFP that “at dusk Saturday four armed bandits stopped the bus on Nyala-Zalinge highway and fired at it, killing a passenger and wounding two others, and ran away.”
Police arrived at the scene, about 18 kilometers (11 miles) from Kas, but it was too late to pursue the “bandits who used the dark as cover,” Mussa told AFP by telephone from the state capital, Nyala.
“This was the only incident in the past two or three weeks,” he said, asked about a recent report that 17 persons had been killed and seven others injured in attacks by the Janjaweed militias on villages near Kas, northwest of Nyala.
Militias burned down 69 villages, displacing 12,000 people, Kas parliamentary deputy Ahmed Abdel Rahman Abu Lu-Lu told the Al-Ayam daily.
“No such incident has occurred in the last two or three weeks,” Mussa said
