SLM/A Chairman Abdulwahid Elnur meets the Sudanese Vice-President Ali Osman Taha
April 15, 2006 (ABUJA) — In a move consistent with his quest to finding a peaceful settlement to the Darfur conflict, Mr. Abdulwahid Elnur, Chairman of the SLM/A, has met with the Vice-President, Mr. Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, at the Nicon Hilton, Abuja, on Friday 14th, 2006. The meeting was conducted in a constructive atmosphere, and it (the meeting) discussed all outstanding issues associated with the three files at the Abuja Inter-Sudanese Peace Talks (Power, Wealth, and Security Arrangements files). Both parties have reiterated their utmost commitment to overcome all outstanding issues as quickly as possible, and pave the way to sign a just and sustainable peace agreement with the ultimate goal to attaining security and tranquility in Darfur.
Mr. Elnur was accompanied by Dr. Ibrahim Madibo, Head of Power Sharing Commission, Mr. Abaker Abulbashar, Head of Wealth Sharing Commission, Mr. Mohamed Adam Abdalla, Head of Security Arrangements Commission, and Miss. Niemat Ahmadai, Secretary for Women and Child Affairs, in addition to other ten members of the SLM/A’s negotiating team in Abuja. Heads of the three commissions have briefed the Vice-President about what has been agreed up so far, the outstanding issues, and the SLM/A’s recommendations to overcome the outstanding issues.
The meeting was scheduled to last for fifteen minutes, but, instead, the meeting had lasted for a full hour and a half
