Turkish Airlines to begin twice-weekly flights to Sudan

April 24, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Turkish Airlines is to begin twice-weekly direct flights between Khartoum and Istanbul. The flights will be operated on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Speaker of Parliament Ahmad Ibrahim al-Tahir yesterday received a delegation comprising members of the Turkish parliament and representatives of Turkish Airlines, who were attending the official launch of the direct flights between the two countries.

The Speaker commended the relations developing in various areas between Ankara and Khartoum, particularly in the field of trade, adding that Turkey was among the first countries to invest in Sudan. He said Sudan was keen to strengthen ties with Turkey and that the visit would further consolidate bilateral relations.

The head of the Turkish delegation stressed the soundness of ties between Sudan and Turkey. He said the beginning of direct flights between Ankara and Khartoum came as a step in the right direction.

He said this would give a fresh impetus to the relations so far developed. He reiterated his country’s keenness to develop ties with Sudan, saying Turkey would contribute to Sudan’s economic development.
