Ethiopia, Turkey ink military cooperation deal
April 25, 2006 (ANKARA) — Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok and his Ethiopian counterpart Gen. Samora Yunus have signed a framework agreement today, envisaging military cooperation between the two countries.
“Ethiopia’s democratic parliamentary system, secular and plural government establishment, market economy and development based on private entrepreneurship resemble Turkey,” said Ozkok at the signature ceremony of the agreement.
“We believe that the newly established cooperation among our militaries will contribute to the strengthening of our friendship ties,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ethiopian General Yunus remarked that the Ethiopian Armed Forces will have a chance to learn about the Turkish Armed Forces’ long experience and will promote a strong Ethiopia by following the Turkish model.
