Six killed in Sudan thunderstorms

KHARTOUM, Nov 5 (AFP) — Six people were electrocuted or drowned and an army ammunition warehouse blew up during heavy thunderstorms sweeping southern Sudan, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

Several people were hurt by shrapnel when the warehouse was hit by lightning and blew up in the southern city of Wau, said the English-language daily Khartoum Monitor.

Three other people died in the city when they were hit by lightning, while a woman and her daughter drowned in high waters and another woman died of electric shock.

The circumstances of the fourth electrocution were unclear.

Tuesday’s rains and thunderstorms hitting Wau, capital of North Bahr el-Ghazal State, were among the worst in a decade.
