Self-Reliance, the only path to achieve full independence in Eritrea

By Ibrahim A. Ibrahim

May 4, 2006 — Eritrea since its inception as a nation and during the tough time of struggle, always believed that the only path to independence is to rely on self. To achieve this goal, day in day out the whole population engaged in different tasks, and dedicated to realize this challenging task.

As any fair aim, there exists natural and human made challenges to tackle. Eritrea is doing well to tackle the first, however, the latter seems more challenging than the other. At each and every single step that leads to progress, from nowhere pops up an adverse action, that minuscule the whole efforts. Whether intentional or not it may have minor negative impact. At least to those who wish to hear and see the reality.

In disregard to the negative connotation that flows to diminish if it can, or at least to undermine the intended goal, Eritreans must double their efforts to show the reality.

Recently, during the visit of the special envoy to the secretary general of UN for humanitarian assistance to Eritrea, we observed accusing the government of Eritrea on piling thousands of tons of food stored, while people are getting hungry. This ridiculous accusation is really disgusting, and unacceptable. How come the government who is carrying out its obligations, to the point that no country is willing to do to feed its people deserve such an ugly accusation.

It was yesterday’s news when Eritrea emptied most of its hard currency reserves from the Central Bank to acquire necessary food from world market. This occurred when the world community tried to politicize the natural disaster of drought to undermine the nation and to impose their own political agenda. This is the government that is blamed today for hoarding the food while its people are getting hungry.

Hello! People, it is fair to say the fair, but is unfair and disrespectful to undermine the one who deserve to be praised for the work well done.

If it is for the Eritrean people, I am sure they are well aware that there is nothing that comes to interfere for their main goal of Self-Reliance. As the Self-Reliance, is the only path to achieve full independence.
