Last batch of Rwanda troops moves to Darfur

May 4, 2006 (KIGALI) — The last batch of the 31st Battalion of the Rwanda Defence Forces earmarked for peacekeeping missions to Darfur (Sudan) has left, RNA News-reported.

The batch totalling 538 soldiers of the 501 Brigade now brings to about 2,000 Rwandan peacekeepers in Sudan.

Rwanda holds a six and half (6.5) year contract with the African Union (AU) and the UN to provide security and peacekeeping for AU Monitors to the troubled Western Darfur region of Sudan. [passage omitted]

The batch left Kigali International Airport at 0100 Gmt Thursday morning.
