Minawi says committed to Darfur peace agreement

May 10, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), Minni Arkoi Minawi faction, has said signing the peace agreement with the government came with the desire to bring peace for the sake of lifting the suffering of the Darfur citizens and to actively participate in development and reconstruction.

Meni_Minawi_Arkowri.jpgDuring a press conference by telephone in Khartoum today Minawi said his movement represented the spearhead in bringing the called for change. He reiterated the movement commitment to implement the clauses of the Darfur agreement.

Minawi was speaking in a press conference organized by his representative in Khartoum Mustafa Abdellah Abakr.
Abakr launched the activities of the SLM -Minawi in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Minawi said the MLS would engage in political activities soon by setting up offices in different parts of the country so as to participate with the political forces in the country for the sake of development in the country.

He presented the achievements made in Darfur after implementing the agreement to end bloodshed.

Meanwhile, the official spokesman of the SLM of Minawi’s wing reiterated that Darfur-Darfur dialogue would continue to strengthen peace in Darfur.

In holding this press conference Minawi meant to disapprove his political advisor Ibrahim Ahmed Ibrahim who said in a letter addressed to the UN Secretary General that Minawi signed Darfur agreement under pressures.
