Sudan’s Salva Kiir to attend Museveni swearing-in
May 11, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan’s First Vice-President Salvia Kiir Mayardit has left Khartoum for Kampala. He was seen off at Khartoum International Airport by the Second vice-president Ali Osman Mohamed Taha.
Kiir will stay in Uganda for two days during which he is scheduled to attend the inaugural ceremony of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who won a recent presidential election.
Kiir is being accompanied by the minister of foreign affairs Lam Akol and the state minister at the Presidency, Telar Deng.
Sudan’s First Vice-President. Salvar Kiir arrived at 4.00p.m Thursday at Entebbe airport.
11 presidents and 70 representatives of countries and international organisations will attend President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony.
Four of the 11 presidents who confirmed attendance, Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Abdullahi Yusuf of Somalia and Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti arrived Thursday evening.
Expected to arrive on Friday 12 May Maj. Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Mwai Kibaki of Kenya, Jakayi Kikwete of Tanzania, Burundi’s Pierre Nkurunziza, Nigeria’s Olusegun Obasanjo, South Africa’s Thabo Mbeki and Meles Zenawi, the Ethiopia Prime Minister.
Representatives are also expected from the United Nations, the Commonwealth, the African Union, the East African Community, IGADD, COMESA as well as the People’s Republic of China.
