Sudan accuses Darfur rebels to Chad for kidnapping three local leaders

KHARTOUM, Nov. 8, 2008 (SPA) — Sudan’s government Saturday filed a complaint to Chadian authorities alleging that a “group of bandits” had kidnapped three leaders of the Darfur region of western Sudan, the official Sudanese Omdurman radio reported.

The Sudan government notified the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) as well as Chad, which has been negotiating a settlement between the rebels and the government of Sudan.

In a statement by Mohammed Yousif Kibur, the governor of the region of North Darfur, Sudan said it was holding certain “political organizations” responsible for the kidnapping of the three leaders inKul-kul County in Western Darfur.

In a related development, the Sudanese presidential security advisor Al-Tayeb Mohammed el-Khair departed Saturday to the Chadian capital of Ndjamena to further negotiate implementation of the security and military protocol signed on Friday between Sudan and Chad.
