Sudan to set up 42 FM radio stations

May 12, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The managing director of the Sudan Broadcasting Corporation, Amin Hassan Omar, has announced a plan to set up 42 FM radio stations, which will cover 42 towns in all the country’s states.

Addressing a meeting of cultural and sport coordinators at the corporation’s HQs, Omar said the national media requires perfection, specialization and not a central administration. He said the Transitional Constitution has already catered for this provision.

According to SMC service, Omar added that specialists at the corporation are now putting in place engineering standards for the radio stations to be set up in all the Sudanese states.

The specialists will also provide technical, engineering, training and capacity building advice, to make the exchange of media services between the stations and the national corporation easy.
