South Sudan PRM militia joins Sudan SPLM
May 12, 2006 (JUBA) — Alfred Ladu Bore, commander and chairman of the Patriotic Resistance Movement/ Army (PRM/A) of southern Sudan now agrees to join the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) after 13 years of opposition to them.
The Patriotic Resistance Movement/Army was formed in October 1993 due to certain contradictions within the SPLM/A in early 1990s “with the single aim to struggle for the people of southern Sudan”.
In a press conference, Bore narrates how his forces came to integrate with the SPLM by the encouragement of the president of the government of southern Sudan.
Salva Kiir sent him several messages urging him to forget the past and look forward to the future by working together for the common goal of the southern Sudanese people “For this fundamental reason, I could not fail our president’s trust, with a deep sense of duty and high responsibility, and on behalf of the PRM/A leadership we accepted unconditionally his appeal to return home and participate in the historic efforts initiated by him to unify our forces and defend the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
Now is the time for all southerners to focus on democratic dialogue among themselves”, he stated.
He urged the southerners to resolve their difference through collective efforts rather than holding up arms against each other.
