Khartoum Monitor to launch Arabic edition

May 15, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese independent English language daily newspaper, the Khartoum Monitor, has announced that it will begin, Thursday 18 May, publishing a weekly Arabic language edition of the paper.

A_Sudanese_man_reads_a_daily.jpgIn an advertisement appearing on its Monday 15 May edition, the newspaper says, with the Arabic publication, it “hopes to reach those who do not read English so that its message of a Sudan of justice, balanced development, equitable distribution of power and resources reach everyone in Sudan.”

it worth to mention that many Sudanese from the Sudanese marginalized regions do not speak English, as result of intensive arabization of the curricula in the Sudanese school.

A foreign observer who visited Sudan two weeks ago said “Southerners are speaking now Arabic as well as northerners and wearing the same clothes, to hear Southerners abroad and southerners inside the country you feel a real gap between them”.
