Jordan ready to promote peace in Sudan
May 15, 2006 (AMMAN) — Jordanian King Abdullah II said on Monday that Jordan was ready to play a role in promoting peace andstability in Sudan, especially after the signing of Darfur peace agreement.
During his meeting with visiting Sudanese president’s special envoy Mustafa Ismail, Abdullah said the peace agreement is an important step to achieve peace and national reconciliation in Darfur and resume the developmental march in Sudan.
Ismail briefed the King on details of the peace agreement.
The Sudanese government and the Sudan Liberation Movement faction led by Minni Arkou Minawi signed a peace agreement on May 6 in the Nigerian capital Abuja to end a three-year-old armed conflict in Sudan’s western region of Darfur.
