First Vice-President to visit Jordan Sunday
May 20, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese First Vice-President and President of the Government of South Sudan Silva Kiir Mayardit is due to leave to Amman in a 3-day office visit to the Kingdom of Jordan at the invitation of King Abdullah II.
Mayardit’s talks with the Jordanian Monarch would focus on means of boosting bilateral relations and increasing Jordanian investments in Southern Sudan.
The First Vice President further would meet the Jordanian Prime Minister Marouf Al-Bakhiet, as well as the other seniors’ officials, businessmen and the members of the Sudanese community in Amman.
Meanwhile, the Sudanese Ambassador to Jordan, Mohamed Mahmoud Abu Sinn, described the relations linking Sudan and Jordan as distinguished in all the aspects, specially the economic domains, and never underwent any extra-ordinary circumstances since their establishment in 1956.
Jordan ranks the second after Saudi Arabia in terms of volume of foreign investments in Sudan, approximately 1 billion US Dollars, and that there are some 50 successful Jordanian Projects in Sudan.
He revealed that the visit of the First Vice President to Jordan comes at the invitation of the Jordanian Monarch to discuss possible contribution of Jordan in rehabilitation of the South.
In this regard, he affirmed the intention of the Jordanian government to hold an investment conference in the Southern States to push forward development in the South. Abu Sinn further said that the 4th session of the Sudanese-Jordanian high committee would be held in this month to discuss implementation of 18 bilateral agreements.
